This year Saint Ambrose Parish will host the Thanksgiving Ecumenical Prayer Service from 10 to 11 am. so put the turkey in the oven and come celebrate the original purpose of the day--to thank God. We started this tradition of combining Thanksgiving services with other local churches five years ago beginning here at Saint Ambrose. The celebration has traveled to three other congregations, and this year, it will return to our church. Please do plan to gather with fellow Christians under the theme of this year's celebration--Cultivating Gratitude in Our Lives.
As we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council, gathering with fellow Christians is especially significant since the promotion of ecumenism was one of the momentous outcomes of the Council. If you're old enough, you remember how members of different Christan churches were highly discouraged from mingling with people outside their tradition. Now we recognize the Spirit of God moving in all the churches and that we have something to learn from one another about our relationship with God. Now that is something to give thanks about.
