A couple weeks ago we opened our doors to about 25 homeless men, women, and children. We participated in a PG County program called Warm Nights. Saint Ambrose Parish hosted warm nights during the Christmas and New Year holidays when many other churches were unable to do so. I am extremely proud of how well our parishioners responded to the needs of our homeless brothers and sisters. Excellent meals were provided every day by parishioners, and other community groups. A few parishioners stayed with the guests each night to converse and interact with the guests. If you were part of this endeavor, you know what a beautiful sight it was to behold. I am tremendously grateful to all of you who were so compassionate and caring. A special word of thanks goes to Mr. Tom Tremble. Giving so much of his time, Tom organized all the volunteers and managed the daily activities of the program.
Homelessness is a big issue, and its systemic causes are things we should discuss and seek to combat in the long run, but in the short run 25 people experienced warmth, comfort, and a bit of humanity. That’s a beautiful thing. Thank you for being the type of people that can make this happen.
