Pray Every Day at Noon!

Dear Fellow Disciples:

Do you think of yourself as a disciple? I hope you hear me use the word "disciple" often when I speak about who we are. Being a disciple signifies actively following Jesus by imitating him. The more we study the life of Jesus, the more we know how to be disciples. One of the most intriguing aspects of Jesus' life was his need to pray. Jesus is God, why did he need to pray as he walked this earth? Jesus prayed because he was also fully human and needed guidance, strength and connection with God the Father. As disciples we need to pray for the same reasons.

A few years ago I encouraged us all to pray for one another every day at noon. Even if you are in the middle of something demanding, you can simply pause mentally and express a thought such as "God help my fellow disciples at Saint Ambrose." Some people have mentioned to me that remembering to pray every day at noon has been a wonderful experience for them. It's great to know that no matter where we are or what we are doing, we are supporting one another in prayer. What a powerful means of building solidarity among us as a parish family and heightening our sense of belonging!

Just as Jesus needed to pray, we need to pray in order to be faithful disciples. Where does noon usually find you? Put something in that setting to remind you to experience God's love and the fellowship of your fellow parishioners at that moment in your day.
