African inspired masks

After comparing and contrasting different African masks through a sketching exercise, students designed a mask inspired by their sketches. They formed cardboard bases, building them up with cardboard shapes and miscellaneous foam and cork forms. Then they covered their mask with plaster guaze strips, painting them with colors taken from the African masks. Finally they added beans, beads and raffia as finishing touches.
