Second graders looked at many images of Christ on the cross. Then they designed the shape of their cross and determined how they wanted the body of Christ to hang on the cross. They created a template of their cross, and used it to cut their cross shape from a slab of clay. Rolling small shapes they created the body of Christ, learning how to use proper technique to attach the parts to the cross. After the images were fired in the kiln, they dipped their crosses in different mixes of thinned acrylic paint and covered them with varnish.
